Students at Sigma Higher Secondary School in Kathmandu, Nepal, are celebrating Teachers’ Day
Make a Kid Smile has started a new blog with stories from children in Nepal who experienced the massive earthquake a few weeks ago. Please read and leave a comment to the children here
The earthquake in Nepal hit hard. The tragedy of lost family members and those still missing needs to be dealt with alongside the loss of property, a non-functioning infrastructure and the challenge of finding necessities for the day. The uncertainty about when society will function normally again affects everybody in Nepal.
Make a Kid Smile and the network Global Buddy Schools are now giving our followers the opportunity to contribute to getting the schools back on track. We believe that being able to go back to school as soon as possible reinstates hope about the future among kids.

Here is an excerpt from a letter from the principal of Bidur:
“…most of the students in my school are from grassroot level parents. First they admit the students after two-three months they stop paying the school fee. The students are good in study so I cannot dismiss from my school due to their default not to pay the fee.. so I have to pull on my heavy loads some how to run my school. In this contact, A global Buddy School through “Make a Kid Smile” programmme contributing a great help for my school.”
Unfortunately, the school on Amorgos has closed and is no longer one of our Global Buddy Schools.
Amorgos is one of the islands of the Greek Cyclades. It is an island with about 2000 inhabitants. The Global Buddy School lied in the small mountain village of Tholaria. The school had 14 pupils between the ages of 6 and 12.
Students at SSHL in Sigtuna, Sweden, sent together with the Make a Kid Smile Foundation a school bag to the village Sarayaku in Ecuador. The school bag was filled with school material and toys. Letters and photos from year 5 at Josefina School in Sigtuna were also included. Exchanging letters with children in other parts of the world is a good way to get to know each other’s culture.
Do you want to send a school bag to a school with limited resources, please visit www.makeakidsmile.net
The students at SSHL and Josefinaskolan in Sigtuna have helped Make a Kid Smile decorate a Christmas Tree for the competition at Stora Brännbo. The tree is covered with Smilies with greetings on the backside. Schools in Ecuador, Russia and Iran have been asked if they want to contribute. These schools also received a letter about Swedish Christmas traditions. The Smilies will be sent to MaKS’ Global Buddy Schools after the competition.
